The vision of the founders was a constitution that would create a federal government responsible for governing the country through a process of checks and balances and a balance of state and federal powers. The founders did not foresee or desire or anticipate political parties...but from the very beginning, there was development of political parties, and the polarization of politics and the philosophy and the role of government. This class will explore and define the emergence of parties and the impact of polarization on American history beginning with Jefferson and Hamilton...and on several other occasions during our 240 years as a country. Today is not new...
