Naftali was among the first group of Ethiopian Jews to make Aliyah via Sudan. He works as an advocate for Ethiopian-Israelis, striving to raise awareness about Jewish-Ethiopian history and to strengthen Ethiopian-Israeli identity. Naftali discusses Ethiopian Jewish history, culture, and the unique challenges faced by the Ethiopian Jewish community living in Israel. Although it happened recently, most Israelis and Diaspora Jewry are not aware of the difficulties and challenges encountered by Ethiopian Jews in their trek to reach Israel. Naftali also served as a consultant for the recent Netflix film,The Red Sea Diving Resort, which is based on the true story of his brother, Ferede (z’’l), whose bravery and determination helped bring thousands of Ethiopian Jews to Israel in a daring Mossad mission.
