What a pleasure to have Dr Arza Houssan from the Islamic Speakers Bureau come speak to our teens in our Comparative Religions class about Islam. She is a wonderful presenter and our students asked great and important questions. This is how we build bridges and create a world of understanding! “I can honestly say that Hebrew High served as a pillar for me while I was growing up. It broke down any distance there was between Jewish ideals and how I was living my life. Before I knew it, I was 2 years in with a huge group of Jewish friends that I related to, had a decent proficient level of understanding Hebrew, and an eclectic background in Jewish education ranging from the Holocaust to Jewish Ethics. It’s no exaggeration to say that Hebrew High significantly altered my path for the better as I grew through high school and moved on.”

Ellie Polsky

“I will never forget the memories I have had at Hebrew High and the everlasting friendships I have made. I also want to thank all the teachers at Hebrew High for all you have taught me. Whenever I come to the ILJCCampus I always think of wanting to go back to Israel and getting more involved in the community and I want to thank you for that. It has been a great four years!”

Jordan Curwin

“A great part of my love for the Jewish culture began at Hebrew High. Before Hebrew High, Judaism was with my family or at temple and very contained. At Hebrew High, Judaism was everywhere. Everyone was Jewish… people were learning and socializing and having fun. Hebrew High taught me to be a Jew. I intend to carry on that aspect of my life on my journey through college and through life.”

Mat Turnansky

“During my four years at Hebrew High I have had the opportunity to learn and appreciate the Hebrew language. I have become more proficient in reading and writing, expanded my vocabulary, gained greater mastery of grammar and syntax, and have acquired an appreciation for the beauty of the Hebrew language. It has been both a rewarding and worthwhile language learning experience, and I hope someday to put my Hebrew language skills to great use on future visits to Israel. Along with my Hebrew language skills I have also acquired a deeper understanding of the history and heritage of the Jewish people and the State of Israel.”

Chanele Czopp

“Hebrew High gave me the connection that I was missing in my life. After two years of Spanish classes, I had had enough. My mother suggested I try out Hebrew High, and she was right. Yes, I said it, my mother was right. From the very first lesson I felt right at home. I speak fluent Hebrew and have my entire life. The teachers at Hebrew High definitely helped me perfect my skills, but it was so much more than that, they became like family. It’s just something about being around Jewish teens and teachers that make you feel like you belong.”

Dylan Brooks

“Every Tuesday night, when I step through the doors of the JCC, my mind is filled with information through amazing levels of teaching and fun. The broad range of classes never fails to inspire me. Watching Jewish films, listening to Jewish artists, learning how to advocate for Israel, or experiencing Jewish cuisine, I have learned the most about myself by learning about my faith. One of the greatest aspects of Hebrew High is the collaboration with other programs throughout the Jewish Community. Hebrew High has promoted programs such as Stand with Us, a teen internship advocating for Israel, and Israeli-American Council Eitanim, a program teaching Jewish teens about different business concepts in the Phoenix area. The education I have gained through the amazing classes and other programs resulting from Hebrew High have inspired me”

Elise Nochomovitz

“Hebrew High is about making Judaism modern and keeping me grounded in my Jewish roots. Not only is every class unique in its own way, but so are the people going through this program with me. I could not be more grateful that I have been able to spend the last four years growing, learning, and laughing with these incredible people. Through this amazing program, I have been able to expand both my knowledge and love for Judaism. Hebrew High has sparked a world of curiosity in me, and throughout college and beyond I plan on being as actively Jewish as I can. I am so appreciative for everything this program has provided for me and my peers, and I can’t wait to spread my knowledge, curiosity, and love for Judaism throughout the world.”
